2022 3M Open Fantasy Golf Picks, Tips, Rankings: Golf expert says avoid Hideki Matsuyama at TPC Twin Cities

Hideki Matsuyama and Tony Finau are among the PGA Tour headliners at this week’s 3M Open 2022 at TPC Twin Cities. Matsuyama is one of six major champions to participate, along with Jason Day, Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Danny Willett and Lucas Glover. Finau and Matsuyama are set to play this week after competing at The Open Championship in St. Andrews, with Sungjae Im and Sahith Theegala among other notable golfers making the double. Chez Reavie won last week’s Barracuda Championship from the PGA Tour’s final major of the season and is also in the 2022 3M Open field. Martin Laird, Cam Davis and Maverick McNealy are also expected to compete after finishing in the top 10 in this event, while Davis Riley and former tennis star Mardy Fish are also among the notable entries.

Finau, who has finished second since early May, is the 12-1 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest 2022 3M Open odds. He is followed by Matsuyama (16-1), Im (16-1) and Adam Hadwin (20-1). McNealy (22-1), Riley (25-1), Theegala (25-1) and Davis (25-1) are also among the favorites for the 2022 3M Open. Reavie (35-1) and Laird (35- 1) could also wrestle, while Fish is a 1000-1 longshot. Will you get decent value on players like Reavie and McNealy for your 2022 3M Open Fantasy golf picks after their good runs last week? Or should you play it safe and go with the more established Matsuyama or Finau? Gates is a staff writer for 247Sports and has covered a range of sports for nearly five years. He has been following golf closely for much longer and has an in-depth knowledge of the sport. He also knows what it takes to win, on the course and in fantasy sports.

Gates has crushed his golf picks all season. He won last week’s Open Championship, with Cameron Smith among his outright winners despite many pundits writing off the Australian. “There’s some concern here after the way he played at the US Open,” Gates said ahead of the historic event in St. Andrews. “But Smith has been solid in the other two majors this year. … The value is definitely there.”

Of course, the 28-year-old bounced back from a third-round 73 to blitz the Old Course on Sunday. He shot a 4-under 68 to pass sentimental favorite Rory McIlroy to have his name engraved in the Claret Jug. It was just the last of Gates’ good weeks for picking PGA Tour events.

At the John Deere Classic, he identified 40-1 longshot JT Poston as the potential winner. In Travelers, it was all over Sahith Theegala, which was priced at just $7,300 at DraftKings and finished second to help many fantasy golf players cash in!

At Memorial, five of Gates’ nine picks finished in the top 15, including his biggest sleeper, Brendan Steele – just $6,600 at DraftKings – who finished in the top 10! At Wells Fargo, four of its top six players finished in the top five, including winner Max Homa, a 40-1 long shot. Anyone who followed Gates is upstairs.

Now Gates has ranked his top golfers for the 2022 3M Open, and you’ll definitely want to see what he has to say. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and 3M Open picks on SportsLine.

2022 3M Open Fantasy Golf Experts’ Choice

Gates has seen Im’s struggles but he is undeterred and will back the South Korean this week. Im faltered in three straight tournaments, but two were majors and the other was on a links course. He missed the cut at the US Open and Scottish Open before finishing T-81 at St. Andrews. But this week will be a return to normal, and the 24-year-old is among the best young players in the game. I’m tied for eighth at the Masters and have finished 21st or higher in his next four events.

On the other hand, the expert stays away from Matsuyama, causing the 2021 Masters champion to disappear due to his inconsistency. The 30-year-old remains among the best on the tee-to-green circuit, but he also still struggles with his putter. He finished fourth at the US Open but also has a missed cut, disqualification for using an unlicensed club and a T-60 since mid-May. He finished tied for 68th at St. Andrews, and he might not have the motivation this week after his long flight over the top.

How to Set Your 2022 3M Open Fantasy Golf Ranking

For the 3M Open of the Year, Gates is touting a fantasy roster player who will be overlooked and priced at around $7,500 on DraftKings. This golfer’s putter can keep him near the top of the leaderboard any week. It could be a surprise in this weaker area and offer you excellent value for your 2022 3M Open lineup.
