Gabriel Jesus scores his first home appearance for Arsenal with a HAT-TRICK as Mikel Arteta’s men end their pre-season campaign in style by beating Sevilla 6-0 to lift the Emirates Cup
- Arsenal put in a standout performance in their last pre-season friendly
- The Gunners overtook Sevilla, scoring four goals in nine minutes in the first half
- New signing Gabriel Jesus was the star of the show as he scored three goals
- Bukayo Saka got a brace and substitute Eddie Nketiah completed the scoring
- Arsenal will face Crystal Palace in the Premier League opener on Friday night
Gabriel Jesus scored a hat-trick on his home debut to take his pre-season tally to seven goals before Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “We want more”.
The Brazilian striker, who signed from Manchester City for £45million, stole the show from fellow debutants Oleksandr Zinchenko and France defender William Saliba, as well as new captain Martin Odegaard.
But Arteta insisted he wanted to add more firepower to his squad ahead of Friday night’s opener at Crystal Palace.

Asked if he was happy with his attacking options and his £117m summer outlay, the Spaniard replied: “We’re still hoping to do something else if the market allows us.”
“We have also seen movement in the other direction. We just want to get the perfect balance and implement the plan we wanted from the beginning (of the transfer window).
“I don’t know if we can or not, but I’m happy with what we’ve done so far.”
Arteta was also delighted yesterday to discuss his appointment of former Real Madrid midfielder Odegaard as a permanent replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as skipper.
The 23-year-old Norwegian shared the captaincy with Alex Lacazette after the Gabon striker was sacked and sold to Barcelona last January.

Substitute Eddie Nketiah completed the scoring when he completed a counter-attacking move
“I’m proud to make this announcement because I think he’s a very good person to commit to the club,” Arteta said.
“Since he has been here for 18 months, he has represented the values of this football club in the best possible way. He has the desire and the ambition to take this club to a different level.
“His desire to contribute, to push this team and how he is respected by everyone in this organization is evident.
“He’s the captain of his national team and I just thought it was the right choice.”
Arteta has also confirmed he has allowed Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares to sign a season-long loan with French side Marseille while defender Hector Bellerin is set to join Real Betis.
He did not confirm Bellerin’s departure but said: ‘We don’t know – we are proceeding on a case-by-case basis. For Nuno’s development, the move will be really important.
New Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard lifts the Emirates Cup after a dazzling display
And although every touch of defender Saliba’s home debut was cheered on by a crowd of 60,000 for this Emirates Cup tie, it was Jesus’ goals that caused the home fans to stir. His seven goals have helped secure five wins in five pre-season appearances since leaving City.
“You hope someone will start racing, but they have to adapt to so many things to join a new club, a new city, new teammates,” Arteta said.
“He did it in a quick and natural way. The other players are looking for him on and off the ball and he connected in a very quick and natural way. I’m really happy with him.
Bukayo Saka netted twice and substitute Eddie Nketiah was also on the scoresheet after Jesus linked up with Odegaard as he scored in the 13th, 15th and 77th minutes.
Arteta concluded: “Martin makes Gaby better and he needs threat in front of him.” He can find this final pass at any time in closed or open spaces. I think the connection is already there.
