ATP Atlanta Semi-Final Predictions Including Tiafoe vs Brooksby

We are in the final four of the ATP Atlanta Open after an exciting tournament so far. Fans will enjoy an all-American semi-final for match two between young stars Frances Tiafoe and Jenson Brooksby. Alex de Minaur reached the semis as expected as the third seed, but he faces unexpected semi-finalist Ilya Ivashka. Ivashka is looking to play in his second career final and is the only unranked player remaining in the draw. There isn’t much experience in the later stages of tournaments apart from de Minaur, with the other three players combining for just two career titles. Both games are scheduled for late afternoon and will physically test the players in the Atlanta heat. Each game is predicted below, and after Saturday there will be an exciting final.

ATP Atlanta Semi-Final Predictions

Alex de Minaur vs. Ilya Ivashka

Face-to-face: by Minaur 1-0 Ivashka

While de Minaur has won his only encounter, it was in 2018 on a grass pitch when the two players were at very different times in their careers. Ivashka is looking to play in her second career final after winning her first title a year ago in Winston-Salem. De Minaur will be hungry as he hasn’t played a final in over a year, but he has had success on hard courts with eight of his nine career finals on the surface. De Minaur seems to be adapting to hard courts in his first tournament back on the surface.

While he lost the first set of his quarter-final match, he relied on a big serve the rest of the way and took the win unbroken in the final two sets, including a third 6 -0. Ivashka had a more favorable draw but had to struggle, playing three sets in each of her three matches to get here. De Minaur will be a much tougher opponent for Ivashka with both her big serve and speed forcing Ivashka to hit the extra shot and make more mistakes. It should be an easy game for de Minaur, who seems to have overcome the early season rust and is playing like the best player he is. Ivashka doesn’t have enough tools to win it.

Prediction: Minaur in 2

Frances Tiafoe vs. Jenson Brooksby

Face-to-face: Brooksby 1-0 Tiafoe

Brooksby beat Tiafoe in Washington a year ago in a close battle in their only meeting. He looked like a future American star at 21, with fourth-round appearances at recent events at the US Open, Indian Wells and Miami. Tiafoe is another elite talent, though the inconsistency has kept him from taking the next step. They have somewhat different styles, with Tiafoe relying on powerful, strong shots to get past her opponents, while Brooksby has a more defensive game that confuses her opponents and throws them off balance.

Brooksby looked dominant in his first two matches here, winning easily in straight sets. In the quarter-final against John Isner, he gave up the first set, then managed to get three breaks against Isner in the next two sets, a daunting task for any player, without being broken himself. Tiafoe was equally dominant, winning all four sets of the ATP Atlanta Open, including a dominant 6-4 6-2 victory over the talented Brandon Nakashima. While every player looks tough to beat and Tiafoe has experience on his side, he has been inconsistent game after game in his career.

His huge game makes him a challenge to anyone he plays, but it can also make him error-prone. Brooksby is a tough game for Tiafoe because Brooksby’s defensive abilities can cause him to hit extra shots and force him to make extra mistakes. It will be the difference in the match, with Brooksby doing just enough to win the key points and go through a close match in three sets.

Prediction: Brooksby in 3
