“Too many mistakes!” : Footage emerges of Erik ten Hag berating his Manchester United players as they struggle to complete his one-touch training drill… while his former Ajax stars show how it should be done
- New video footage compares training drills between Manchester United and Ajax
- Red Devils stars are seen struggling with instructions from Erik Ten Hag
- Ajax players have no problem performing the same drill under Ten Hag
A new video has emerged showing one of Erik ten Hag’s first training exercises at Manchester United and his displeasure with the way the players finished it.
The Dutchman officially took charge of United last week, and all eyes will now be on how the 52-year-old implements the style of play that has made his Ajax side one of the most attractive teams in Europe.
Another video has also emerged of former Ten Hag players taking part in the same drill during his tenure as Ajax manager – and the comparison is rather unflattering for United players.
Ahead of the new season, the new video shows the manager putting United players through a passing drill and, from what he hears, the drill isn’t going as well as expected.
Ten Hag can be heard, along with his coaching staff, yelling at players “right foot, left foot” after every pass and even telling his team that they are “making too many mistakes”.
In footage of the new United manager asking his former club Ajax to do the exact same drill, Ajax players can be seen playing much more successfully, with passes appearing to be more precise, played with higher intensity and without players needing to break their stride.

United fans can’t believe the difference between Ten Hag’s two club training drills
United fans were quick to jump at the comparison, pointing out the stark difference between Ajax’s quick swaps and the mistakes United men make with the same drill.
A fan goes so far as to castigate the Red Devils players because it looks like one of the ‘biggest brands in football in the world’ can’t seem to pull off a simple passing drill.
United fans worried about training difference between Ajax and Red Devils
Fans are hoping the signing of Tyrell Malacia from Feyeonord will help bring in Ten Hag’s new style of play and the club are confident of securing other names to bolster the Old Trafford squad.
Talks are continuing with Barcelona for midfielder Frenkie de Jong, and it is hoped that Ajax’s Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez could join him as well. United are also keen to sign another former Ten Hag favourite, skillful striker Antony from Ajax.
Christian Eriksen is also set to join the club after agreeing a deal to move to Old Trafford. However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain, with the United star keen on a move away from Old Trafford.
With United’s Premier League opener just over a month away, Ten Hag has pre-season trips to Thailand and Australia to oversee ahead of the new season kicking off at home to Brighton.
