The 4th of July is synonymous with fireworks. They’re cool and all, but we kind of prefer metaphoricals that happen on track. So here, in no particular order, are our favorite on-track fireworks so far from the 2022 season.

HAILIE DEEGAN AGAINST. STEWART FRIESEN, WWT RACEWAY: Hailie pinching Friesen lightly on the track before a warning led to that little expression of disdain from Friesen. On the firework side, it may be a sparkler. It reminds me of when I’m walking through the mall and an aggressive guy selling sea salt lotion at a kiosk in the middle comes running up to me trying to give me a sample.

TYLER REDICK VS. CHASE BRISCOE, BRISTOL DIRT: What looked like Reddick’s first career Cup Series win was swept away on the final corner by an admittedly overly aggressive Chase Briscoe. We also expected fireworks on pit road between the two drivers. Unfortunately, that one was a firework display where you light the fuse and then it never goes out and you’re incredibly, incredibly disappointed.

KYLE LARSON VS. CHASE ELLIOTT, AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY: There’s something about incidents between teammates that brings us to life. Larson apparently not knowing his teammate was on the outside led to a rude tirade from Chase Elliott that was louder than 500 M-80s at once.

SHELDON CREED VS. JADE BUFORD: The Xfinity Series race in Portland was crazy on many levels, but our favorite moment was Sheldon Creed giving Jade Buford the rudest finger. And you could say Buford gives it straight to Sheldon, because the windshield wiper is the race car’s middle finger.

CARSON HOCEVAR AGAINST. RYAN PREECE, CHARLOTTE: These two got tangled up in the final rounds in Charlotte, leaving Hocevar heartbroken and Preece giving a ‘The More You Know’ style PSA to the country’s impressionable youth explaining that this what Hocevar did was WRONG, kids. Hocevar shrugged, put on his Viking helmet or whatever hat he wore that night, and walked away.

ROSS CHASTAIN AGAINST. MARTIN TRUEX JR., DOVER: Spoiler alert – Ross appears more than once in this gallery. After the race, Truex Jr. expressed his displeasure with Melon Man’s aggressiveness in the final laps. It was in the form of a stern lecture. No punches. No object thrown. Sometimes we wonder if Truex Jr. is actually from New Jersey.

HAILIE DEEGAN AGAINST. LAWLESS ALAN, MARTINSVILLE: It’s no surprise to see Martinsville here. The still aggressive truck racing there caused some post-race bitterness, especially between Hailie Deegan and Lawless Alan. We don’t really know what was discussed. All we can figure out is that Hailie wasn’t buying it.

WILLIAM BYRON VS. JOEY LOGANO, DARLINGTON: Was it running too aggressively or revenge for an earlier incident? William Byron says the first, Joey Logano the second. Look at this though – like a senior pushing a freshman into a locker.

ROSS CHASTAIN AGAINST. DENNY HAMLIN, ST. LOUIS: If you recall, that race started with some 3,000 tons of pyro exploding on the straight during the speed laps. It was an indicator of things to come. Chastain sent Hamlin into the wall, and Hamlin spent the next several laps hampering Ross’ progress on the right lane. I guess you could say they are now… (puts on sunglasses)… ARCH ENEMIES. Because they were in Saint-Louis. Come on, it’s good.

TY BIGGS VS. SAM MAYER, MARTINSVILLE: FINALLY, FISTS. Martinsville always boils spirits and BOY did it after the Xfinity Series race. Were words exchanged? We do not know. And if they were, Ty Gibbs kept his helmet on, so they were probably muffled like Kenny in “South Park.” But although he didn’t win the race in Martinsville, Sam Mayer was still able to come away with some lap times.
