Poulter and Westwood launch new changes to the World Golf Rankings

Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood are among a group of professional golfers who have reacted to the new Official Golf World Ranking System which comes into effect this week.

Under the old system, the OWGR used a field test strength determined by the top 200 players in each tournament. This has been removed as the new rules, which are meant to “remove bias”, consider a player’s global Strokes Gained rating – a turn-by-turn calculation over a rolling two-year period that takes into account the relative difficulty of each round.
