Matic has a long history with Mourinho, with whom he played at Manchester United and Chelsea.
The midfielder has played 159 times for the Portuguese manager, more than he has played under any other boss.
He went on to talk about their relationship in more detail saying, “I’ve worked with him before, we have a good connection and he’s one of the reasons I came here.
‘It’s not only easy to work with him, it can be hard! But he is a winner and he is exactly what I expect from my coach and what I like to do in my career is to win. He is a winner, he transmits this energy to the players. I hope we can do great things together.
Matic, who won two Premier League titles with Chelsea in 2015 and 2017 – the first under Mourinho – signed a new three-year contract with United in 2020 but the final year was optional.
He made over 100 Premier League appearances during his spell at Old Trafford after arriving from Chelsea for £40m in 2017, but started just 16 times last season.
Chelsea signed him for the first time from Kosice in 2009, but he moved to Benfica after limited playing time in 2011 before returning to Stamford Bridge for £21m in 2014.

Matic is now excited about the prospect of helping Roma reach new heights – saying the team have ‘a lot of potential’.
The midfielder said: “I watched a few games, it’s possible that with good work we can achieve great things. Let’s see what we can do next season, but I’m sure we can do a lot.
While Roma chief executive Tiago Pinto added: “Nemanja brings with him to Roma not only a lot of quality on the pitch, but the vast experience he has gained over so many seasons in the Premier League. and a focus and mentality that has consistently set him apart throughout his career.
