US Open 2022 picks, best predictions, field, best bets, odds: Golf expert likes Scottie Scheffler

Younger players have had an advantage at recent majors, and many of them could have even more of an advantage at the 2022 US Open. Five of the last six majors have been won by players in their twenties, and several 2022 US Open golfers who fit this bill played in the 2013 US Amateur at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass. The 2022 US Open kicks off on Thursday, and 2013 US Amateur winner Matthew Fitzpatrick is among the favorites for the 2022 US Open. Four-time major champion Rory McIlroy won the RBC Canadian Open last week and is the 10-1 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest US Open 2022 odds.

Thomas, the 2022 PGA champion, is hot on his heels at 11-1, and Scheffler (12-1), Rahm (14-1) and Cameron Smith (18-1) are also the top US Open golf contenders. 2022. Fitzpatrick (22-1) and Schauffele (22-1) are also in a crowded group near the top of the 2022 US Open odds, while Conners (45-1) and DeChambeau (80-1) are far. Before you make any picks for the 2022 US Open or any PGA Tour predictions, you need to see what proven golf insider Sal Johnson has to say.

The esteemed golf insider has been in the game for many years and knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour. Prior to the PGA Championship, Johnson predicted that if Thomas nailed his putts, he could definitely win. Thomas had his best week of the season on the greens, earning over 1.5 shots and ranking second in the field. The result? He beat Will Zalatoris in the playoffs to win his second PGA Championship.

In his previous set of predictions for SportsLine, he won the Masters for the third time in four years. Johnson backed Scheffler, saying he was “in a race where he’s been tough to beat, and I see him continuing at Augusta National.” The 25-year-old picked up his fourth victory of the season.

Now Johnson, the first “Inside the PGA Tour” producer and longtime ABC Sports golf producer who has worked with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, has released his very confident picks for the 2022 US Open. from the founder of, the best database of golf statistics in the world, will certainly surprise you. Top US Open 2022 expert picks

A shocking choice from Johnson: he is losing Viktor Hovland, even though the Norwegian is one of the 10 best players in the world. He’s rated 22-1 at Caesars and has six World Cup wins at 24. He missed a cut this season and finished outside the top 50 once. But the latter came in his last event, the Memorial, and he hasn’t finished in the top 10 since March. He also failed to place in the top 10 in his first 10 majors. Hovland is strong off the tee, approach and putting, but was horrible around the green (202nd in strokes gained).

On the other hand, Johnson sees no weakness in Scheffler’s game and knows he has the demeanor to succeed on tough courses. The 25-year-old has taken a small step back from his fourth win of the season at Augusta. He’s finished 15th or worse in four of his last five tournaments, but fifth was almost a win, as he lost in the playoffs to Sam Burns at Charles Schwab. That performance came after his missed cut to the PGA Championship at Southern Hills, and the FedEx Cup leader is looking to make amends for that major misstep.

The stats expert also knows Spieth can win at any time, especially if he puts it all together. His putting was his weakness (153rd in strokes gained). Still, he had his best performance of the season in that category at the Memorial, where he finished sixth in putting and tied for 18th in the field. He was 60th in that stat in his win at RBC Heritage and 36th in his second-place finish at Byron Nelson. The three-time major champion is 10th in shots won from tee to green and seventh in scrambling, so he should be able to stay in contention at Brookline.
